One of the cheapest teeth whitening options is home teeth bleaching kits - White Guard ® is a premium home teeth whitening product. Whitening paste and thermo-forming 'boil and bite' mouth trays are available to purchase online, for the best tooth whitening results in the comfort of your own home. Refill syringes of bleaching gel come in two different strengths (22% and 35% carbamide peroxide). Dr Philip Stemmer, who has more than 25 years experience with tooth whitening, looked at some of the latest home whitening products for the daily mail online and found the carbamide peroxide ingredient in these products to be very effective in home whitening kits.
The carbamide peroxide gel in these home whitening kits break down in to hydrogen peroxide after a period of time when placed on teeth. The gel is generally far less concentrated than the hydrogen peroxide used for laser teeth whitening at most dental clinics, and therefore require you to use them (in mouth trays) once/twice a day for up to 2 weeks and sometimes more. They are also an excellent way of maintaining your dazzling white smile if you have previously had them professionally laser whitened. Correct preparation is the foundation to obtaining the best teeth whitening results.
The White Guard ® home whitening kit includes flour of pumice paste to clean the extrinsic tooth surface before whitening. The pumice paste is a dentifrice abrasive that cleans and prepares the tooth enamel before whitening, and is an important preparatory step in the whitening cycle. It has been likened to a home ' scale and polish '. It is especially beneficial on teeth that have been subjected to tobacco smoke, red wine, tea & coffee. Most at home whitening kits don't offer this as part of their package, even though it is an essential part of obtaining the best whitening results. Premium quality fresh peroxide gel is air couriered from our laboratory in the USA, weekly.
Many gels advertised originate from countries where the quality and ingredients can be dubious. Our gels are FDA approved (U S Food and Drug Administration). Our tests found carbamide peroxide (CP) bleaching gels with a concentration that was under 20% not to be as effective (although this may be beneficial for those with very sensitive teeth). With less concentrated gels (under 20% CP) you will probably have no gum sensitivity at all, but you may also find that the colour shade of your teeth may not have differed greatly at the end of the treatment due to the gel concentration not being strong enough.
You may eventually have to use higher strength gels in order to get better results. We therefore offer a choice of 22% carbamide peroxide (CP) gel for sensitive teeth/gums, or 35% maximum strength gel to obtain a whiter smile in a shorter number of days. If you are unsure which to choose, act with caution and choose the less concentrated strength gel to start with. We are currently one of the only clinics offering a flour of pumice paste preparation for before whitening - within our teeth whitening kits. This is required to eliminate surface stains and remove the pellicle plaque layer, providing a good base for the bleaching gel.
Brushing with regular fluoride toothpastes immediately before the whitening treatment may coat the teeth with a thin film that may reduce enamel penetration of the active free oxygen radicals in the peroxide gel. If you do brush with a toothpaste immediately before whitening make sure you use a non fluoride tooth paste to get good results, better still use flour of pumice paste which is included in our White Guard ® home whitening kits. Also included in our kits is highest quality re-mineralising gel to neutralise and deal with any sensitivity issues afterwards. This can be used after the whitening session in the rinsed out mouth tray. Results from using White Guard ® will vary from one individual to another, but on average will whiten teeth from 2 - 8 shades lighter when used as per the instructions.
